While most people are aware that coral reefs are in grave danger from many sources, not everyone is aware that the other types of oceanic habitat -mangroves, estuaries, bays, sounds and harbors are also under siege. Loss of these valuable habitats spells disaster for virtually all of the animal inhabitants of the oceans. Mangroves and estuaries are breeding grounds, and nurseries, like coral reefs, and without them fish populations and those of other sea creatures are in grave danger.
